Artist Statement

I grew up in Oklahoma and my first inclination that I was going to be an artist was being in awe of the “big sky” with its storms and sunsets creating dramatic scenes. I viewed that big sky scenery as an expansive ever-changing painting. I always loved being outdoors and art had always been my favorite subject in school. Naturally, I went on to receive my B.A. in Art Studio with and emphasis in painting which included course work in Art History, Drawing, Printmaking, Frescos, and Sculpture. I was immediately drawn to abstract painting and fell in love with the impressionists, color field painters, and the abstract expressionists to include Georgia O’Keefe and Helen Frankenthaler.

As an abstract landscape painter and my work is heavily influenced by the natural world and it’s beauty. Traces of music, people, and places also become interlaced in my work as well. I translate those emotions, influences, and inspirations into abstract paintings on wood panel. Focusing on crisp lines and bold colors, a vehicle to express my emotions regarding the natural world, each piece becomes geometrically segmented resembling a stained glass window. I currently reside in colorful Colorado and the breathtaking landscape, beautiful terrain, and gorgeous sky of the southwest continues to inspire my work.
